If you are interested in making yourself a stylish hat, whether for a special occasion, smart everyday wear or simply just to discover some of the trade secrets of this skilled profession, our millinery class is for you.
Over the two days the course covers the essential techniques in constructing a 'blocked' hat - one that's formed on a wooden millinery crown and brim block in either felt, straw or sinamay.
All the work is done by hand. You'll learn the methods of how to professionally finish a hat, going through several processes from measuring the head, steaming and moulding, stitching the various elements, finishing and trimming, and fitting. Sara, the course tutor, always does her very best to ensure everyone attending this class goes away with a professional looking hat they will be happy to wear, whatever the function and that she herself is proud of.
The price includes refreshments and some very basic materials essential to hat making such as thread, wax, petersham for hat bands etc.
You will need to bring:
- The materials for the hat itself, which includes: block and trimming - felt, straw, sinamay, visca, and various other fabrics. If you need help or advice with this please let us know before you attend the class.
